Nesting box........

In October a group of like mind creative peeps just like myself make the journey out to a small rural town here in WA for Retreat.

The Hyden retreat is held in March and October every year and this has fast become somewhat of an institution with our Perth group growing in number each time we go.

It's three long glorious days surrounded by like minded creative women who are there with one mission in mind - CREATE!!!

I have to confess my mojo is never as good as it has been the last several time I have been. Im not sure what thats about? Could be the water? the fresh country air maybe?, having my girls all around me and their mojo rubbing off?, I can't quite put my finger on it but it's a magical recipe.

Jenny, Tina and myself were there yet again. Every October retreat is a fund raising breast cancer retreat and always has a pink theme. This year we went as city cowgirls! We looked gorgeous of course! hahahaha

City Cowgirls.

As always Karen is always so supportive of both small and local businesses in the craft industry, so Moulds by Mel went to Hyden. Thank you to both Karen and all the other retreat ladies for allowing us to come and show you what we are all about.

Moulds by Mel at Hyden Retreat.

We ritually visit the Hyden op shop on saturday morning to scope out some bargains. Tina spotted this shadow box and let me have it to work my magic on. Im so glad she did, as I went to town on this little guy and completely love the final product. I wanted to go for a very earthy, darkish, forrest kinda feel and I think i might have done it. It wouldnt be mine unless there was a bit of sparkle at least so i had to had some glitter! hahahah

I think it needs some eggs? what do you think?

I'm thinking it really needs some eggs in the little pidgey holes? What do you think? Should I get to work and make some egg moulds? Wouldn't they be great.

I just went to town with the layering!

If you'd like to see the mushroom mould just click here

Stay tuned to the blog for some exciting things coming up very soon with Moulds by Mel.

Giveaway.......

Hi everyone!

So I have decided it's about time for me to have another giveaway.

First up I'd better show you what's up for offer.

That's it, you guessed it. Does it look Tempting? Well wait there is more.

You not only get the four Moulds pictured here, But also the other two styles of Cherubs, the other size of bottles, that's eight moulds!, but in addition to this you will receive one 475g box of rapid set white resin to start creating!

How does that sound? Sounds awesome to me....

So how can I win you say? Well it's pretty simple actually.

All you have to do is spread the word. Send your friends over to the blog and get them to leave a comment with your name in it (something like Tina Dalton sent me for example).

The person's name that is left the most times wins.

Thats pretty easy right?

Ok just a few ground rules

1. The comment must be left in this posts comment section.(send your friends the link)

2. Only one comment per person will be counted ( so no need to post hundreds of times each)

3. I will announce the winner on the 5th of October.

Now go to it. Spread the word and win yourself some goodies to play with.

Spring is in the air.....

Yep it's here alright, and none to soon I say. There is just something about the light spring brings after the grey winter period that just makes my heart sing. I have to say the blossom trees are bulging with flowers. Just so beautiful.

Now some of you may or may not know but i accepted and new position within my company a few months back. It's a job with a much greater responsibility to the company, and has taken me some time to transition and bear the weight of the work. I've just this week worked out all the kinks and I'm moving along like a well oiled waggon now, and have been busting to get back in my studio to play. I've had several small play dates this week, but today I am home and have been in there since the wee small hours. The sun is streaming in my window and I'm playing along to my hearts content. Olive and Scarlett are playing chasey and running in and out of the cat door ( my window looks over their cat run) and occasionally stop to check out what I'm doing.

I decided that I needed to make a start on Christmas cards, because it would be here before we knew it, so I have the melt pot out and am making some wax Christmas cameos to use on my cards. I'm going with an all white theme and it's actually pretty challenging sticking to it. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not afraid of colour.

I've just recently celebrated my birthday and I'm feeling like i need to share the love. What about we have another give away? I know we had some give aways when I started my Facebook page, but I think it's time we did it again. I'll formulate a plan tonight and let you all know how it will work tomorrow. What do you reckon? Well I'm excited! hahahahah

Tina Dalton has been busy playing away lately creating so many gorgeous Layouts, and I know she has fallen in love with the Cherubs I have just released. She did a layout recently where she antiqued one to make it look like old stone. It's just divine isn't it! Pop over to her blog to see the full layout and what else she has been up too.

The Cherubs really are gorgeous, and they come in three different poses. Check them out here if you'd like to.

Earlier this week I signed up and started an e-course with the amazing Kelly Rae Roberts. Oh my word, can that lady inspire you to get it done! I've been learning so many things about how to handle and build my creative business. I have been struggling of late with getting everything done. Struggling with the little voice inside your head that tells you should be doing this, or you should be doing that. You should be cleaning, or working harder, or spending more time with family. What every it is that stops you from doing exactly what you want to be doing. Well we do need reminding from time to time that it's ok. It's ok to spend your weekend creating, not cleaning. It's ok to think about paint and paper and making stuff all the time instead of reading the newspaper. She reminded me of this this week. and Im taking the time to stop, re-evaluate and reset. Starting today! It's play day. Now that I've told you all about it i have to get back to finishing my cards.

Have Fun!

Moulds by Mel New design team member........

Good morning everyone, I would just like to take this moment to introduce a very exciting new member to the Moulds by Mel Design Team. We are so lucky and privileged to have Davinia apart of our little team and I'm sure you are just going to love her work just as much as me. Ill let Davinia tell you a little more about herself, but we look forward to her first projects that should be up to view very soon.

I'm Davinia and I'm a jewellery artist working predominantly with Polymer Clay.

Back in 2010 I took a class in working with Precious Metal clay with the idea of making my own components and findings. Really enjoyed it but found it rather expensive and open flames were involved.  But during that class we practised making textures and shapes with polymer clay before attempting the same on the PMC and I found the polymer clay so much fun to work with I haven't looked back.

I started with someones unwanted pasta machine and a small plastic container with half a dozen colours of Premo Polymer clay. Now I have a cupboard full of clay paraphernalia, from texture plates, cutting blades and cookie cutters, to books and magazines, embossing powders, mica powders, paints and anything I think I can use with clay.

That's the beauty of polymer, it can be manipulated to look like almost anything, from gem stones to metal. It can be squashed, twisted, cut, sliced, molded, painted, polished and if you don't like it just roll it up and start again.

Polymer clay and molds were meant for each other and I'm so excited to be a member of Mel's design team and being given the opportunity to create exciting pieces using her wonderful Moulds

Tuesday 1 May 2012

I have been busy behind the scenes playing with the moulds. Yay for me! I am completely in love with several of them, like desperately, and use them over and over again.I recently had the pleasure of a scrappy weekend away with my two besties to a small wheat belt town named Hyden. We gave each other a challenge to complete on the weekend sometime. My 'Angelica" layout was my out come. My challenge was do do grungy, make my own flowers and not to have a bow. (you'll come to know how much I love a big bow! hahaha) I am completely excited with my layout, i just love it, and i used Moulds my Mel's teddy bear mould. He is just so adorable.

This next layout that I have done was using a vintage button mould that we I have available. It's great for flower centres and I must have used it at least three or four time over the last few weeks. It's big and makes a statement.

I really enjoyed doing this layout also, having to sit and think what your actually bucket list is. Mine seemed to be all big stuff. Not sure if that makes me to ambitious or Im happy and content with what I have now? I used the Stirling Rose mould to make the hot pink roses I have used here.

The seahorse, what can I say. He's delicate and fragile, but I just love him for some reason. I was so glad I could use him as I have wanted to for the longest time, luckily I recently had breakfast in this most incredible spot down south. It was such a divine morning. Nothing better than Chai and pancakes on the beach, and I mean literally on the beach.

I want to just take this moment to thank a few people (again you all say! hahaha), Im just so lucky and blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing and awesome people that I consider to be my friends, what would we do without them? Firstly to Jenny and Tina. xxxx You know why, and what for. Seriously amazing friends! Moulds by Mel is and would be nothing without you two. xx Secondly I would like to thank Tomorrow's Memories and all the team there, especially Vicki, Jo and Clori for believe in me and this little product and supporting me as I venture out into this big bad world. Introducing the Mould by Mel Design Team..........

I would like to officially introduce the Moulds by Mel Design Team. Not only are these two ladies the most incredible friends, they are also wonderfully talented creative people, and such inspirational supporters of my little product. One miss Jenny Burns, who has told me i could from the day i was inspired to do this and Tina Dalton who's tireless belief in this produced and who has been patiently waiting for me to "get it together" for the last 6 months or more.

I'm so very proud and honoured that these two women are going to be the ambassadors for Moulds by Mel.

Anyway enough from me, with out further ado i give you the Moulds by Mel design team.

I have been doing crafts since I can even remember, sewing, knitting, cross stitch, embroidery, paper tole, ceramics etc... BUT I found my true calling when I discovered Paper Crafts - you can use all different types of crafts and mediums on your scrapping or off the page items and I love it !!!
I work full time as a receptionist, account clerk, general dogs body etc and am a Mum to three teenage boys (straight to heaven for me !!! LOL)  and I have the most gorgeous baby nephew EVER who you will see ALOT in my photos .

Jenny is currently on the Dusty Attic Design team, Tomorrow's Memories Design Team, and has previously been on the Helmar USA Design team.

Here is some samples of what jenny has been doing with Moulds by Mel.

Hi there, My name is Tina Dalton, I have been scrapbooking for about 5
years. I am married to the man of me dreams (Together since I was 16) and he is very supportive of my hobby. I have two grown children, 1 gorgeous Daughter in law and My precious granddaughter, who is the reason I started to scrapbook and you will notice she is my main subject. I love to do girly stuff with a hint of vintage/shabby style to it.I love thefriendships and social side to scrapbooking and have made some very valuable friends. When Mel ask me to be a part of this awesome new venture of hers I was very excited. The moulds are so very easy to use and I am now hooked,I love the fact that by using a mould I can have a much loved embellishment over and over again whenever I want and that I can paint, distress  or decorate it to suit my needs.

Here is some samples of what Tina has been doing with Moulds by Mel.

Welcome to the Moulds by Mel blog.........

Hello everyone. I'm Mel Connell and this is my little blog dedicated to my product Moulds by Mel. Silicone craft moulds with style.

Keep coming back as we will be updating you here with what's new, what's coming and what my Fantastic Design team have been doing with the moulds.

These moulds are not limited to paper crafting alone, but can be used for other crafts also, such as resin for jewellery and magnets, and I'm just checking into the durability for casting pewter and other soft metals.

I'll leave you with a few images of what we have been up to behind the scenes.
